Gesneriads (gesneriaceae)

African violets are part of a large family of plants called “generiads” (gesneriaceae) [ges-neer-ee-ads], which include various, mainly tropical plants.  Although we focus on the violets much of the time, the other gesneriads are included in our presentations and our shows.  While violets all have a generally symmetrical, rosette-shaped appearance, the other gesneriads come in a variety of shapes, forms and colors.  Periodically, we will be adding pictures of various gesneriads and our members who grow them.
